Method

How we measure, and why you can trust the numbers.

Plain English, no black box. This is exactly how we work out how often AI recommends your business.

Seven steps, the same every month.

  1. 01

    Real traveller questions

We write the questions travellers actually ask, like “best adventure activity in Queenstown for teenagers”. The questions never name a business.

  2. 02

Three AI assistants, with web search on

We ask ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini through their official services, with web search switched on, the way a traveller would use them.

  3. 03

    Each question, at least twice

AI gives a slightly different answer each time, so we ask every question at least twice, and more for bigger assessments. One screenshot proves nothing; a pattern does.

  4. 04

    Every answer kept

We store every answer word for word, with the assistant, model and settings that produced it, so any result can be checked again later.

  5. 05

    Count who gets named

Your mention rate is the share of answers that name you. Share of voice is how that compares with the competitors named in the same answers.

  6. 06

    Follow the links

When an answer includes links, we record where they point: your website, a booking site, a review site or somewhere else.

  7. 07

    Check the facts

We compare the prices, ages and limits AI states with your verified figures. A different price may be a child, group or combo price, so we always check before calling it wrong.

17 of 50 answers named you.

  • 17 divided by 50 is 34%. That's your mention rate.
  • But with only 50 answers, chance plays a part. The true figure most likely sits somewhere between 22% and 48%.
  • Ask more questions and the range gets narrower. That's why we collect hundreds of answers before we report a number.

For the curious: the likely range is a 95% confidence interval, worked out with the Wilson method.

What our numbers can't do.

  • AI answers vary

The same question can get a different answer tomorrow. That's why we report ranges and trends, not single answers.

  • Close to, not identical to, the apps

We use the AI companies' official services, which behave very like the ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini apps but can differ slightly. We always record exactly which version answered.

  • Results take time

AI tools update at different speeds. Changes to your website can take weeks to a few months to show up.

  • We can't control AI

Nobody can make an AI assistant recommend a business. We can make sure it has clear, accurate information about yours.

No shortcuts.

  • No fake reviews, fake accounts or fake content.
  • No tricks to game AI assistants.
  • No guarantees of rankings or bookings. Anyone who promises them can't deliver them.
